Application Description
PDA sells pots and other home furnishing products. They source these products from a number of Suppliers, mostly in Asia and sell them to Customers in North America and Europe . These products are sold in large quantities (by containers) and shipped directly from the Suppliers to the Customers. The order placing, acceptance and fulfillment processes are governed by complex business rules. This web application automates all these processes by allowing PDA to create a centralized data repository of Customers, Suppliers, Products, Orders, Invoices and Payments.
Product information on the web includes the specifications of the Product, Packaging options and Loadability information. PDA maintains details of the shipping companies, the shipping costs between different ports around the world so that the Customers while placing the Order use this information to calculate the likely margins. Based on this margin calculation, Customer can decide his Retail Prices and inform PDA to print it in the labels. PDA also maintains different types of configurable labels that can be supplied by it along with the Product. The Customers can configure these labels on-line and also specify the exact location of the labels on the Products.
In the future, PDA can use the application as an electronic marketplace where multiple companies such as PDA can tie up with PDA to host their own websites that service their own Customers by using PDA’s centralized Supplier and Product database.
Technologies used
The application was developed using Microsoft .NET technologies with SQL Server 2000 as database.
Result
PDA is extremely happy with the work done by SilkRoad and engaged SilkRoad to develop another application called Web Reporting System.
